'Keeping it in the family, Franco Lourens has named this stunning white blend after his wife. Lucky woman. It’s a cuvée of Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Clairette Blanche, showing a light touch with oak, flavours of citrus fruit, green apple, wild herbs and wet stone and a long, balanced finish. 2018-23.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 95/100
Lourens Family Wines Lindi Carien 2018. Western Cape (13%).
Now striding into its fourth vintage, Lindi Carien is a superb white blend from Alheit Vineyards' assistant winemaker Franco Lourens. Combining Chenin Blanc with 54% Verdelho, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, it's a focused, herbal, layered cuvée with subtle oak, some skin tannins and an incredibly focused, refreshing finish. 2020-24 95/100 Tim Atkin MW
Franco Lourens : "Nothing deferent making the 2018 Lindi Carien. Same as every year, gentle whole cluster pressed. Old barrels for 10 months. No additions added except a little bit op Sulphur. Unfined and coarse filtration before bottling. I did not add the Clairette Blanche in 2018 thought it took away the freshness of the wine, did do 5 day skin contact on the Grenache blanc like very year"
A beautifully complex wine from Franco Lourens with plenty of opulence and allure. Another superbly well constructed white blend using varietals from around the Western Cape that are becoming so well suited to South African terroir. The nose is ripe and expressive, slightly lactic and creamy, brimming with exotic yellow pastille, tinned pineapple, vanilla pod spice and rock candy notes. The palate has laser-like freshness and crisp, polished precision. Texturally very fine and focused with wound spring tension, underpinned by bristling acids and a tart pineapple and white citrus vivacity. This is such a distinguished blend with the multiple varieties so tightly interwoven so as to become one entity. Lovers of serious Cape white wines will find this new release hard to resist!
